M60B44 Powered BMW 840i

1995 BMW 840i Featuring a Freshly Built M60B44 Engine | Iconic Tourer With a Bit of Extra Power

This 1995 840i is finished in Alpine white over light silver interior. 149,000 miles. Exterior received a respray a few years back and paint is in fairly good condition. Could benefit from a polish. Front bumper features some scratches and scuffs. Otherwise body is in great shape. Car is from western US and has no rust underneath. Features 18″ staggered M parallel wheels with brand new tires installed in 2023. Stopped by Brembo 4 piston front brakes.

Being a 1995 840i this E31 would typically feature an M60B40 engine, however once I purchased this car my aim was to create a more powerful/ fun experience not only for the sake of the car, but also to create content on my YouTube channel. Located there you will find the series of me building the M60b44 engine for this car. M60b44 engine consists of taking an M62B44 bottom end and then putting the M60B40’s heads, timing components, and engine management, onto it. Essentially creating a plug and play engine that looks identical to factory but harnesses higher performance. Building this combination bumps the compression to an M series engine-esque 11:1. Furthermore increasing the horsepower and torque. M60b44 engines are said to bring the engine up to an impressive 350 HP. During this build I had the cylinder heads hot tanked, complete valve job, new valve stem seals and resurfaced. Engine was then fully resealed, assembled with refinished valve covers, and installed. Car remains with its automatic transmission. Engine has a Dinan chip tune. Full factory catted exhaust remains. Cooling system was overhauled including new water-pump, thermostat, and radiator. All work was completed in February of 2024. Ac system functions as it should.

Recent work also includes new Bilstein shocks installed, new brakes installed front and rear, and front lower control arms replaced.

Interior shows its age. Driver seat shows a fair bit of wear consisting of cracks from age. Passenger front the same but not as worn. Rear seats are in good shape. A and C pillars could use a rewrap. On board computer has some pixels out. Otherwise interior functions all work as they should.

This is a great base of an E31 with a fantastic, powerful drivetrain. Some finishing touches and this will be a great car to be enjoyed for many many years to come.
